Book It!!

So am I the only one who remembers the Book It program back in elementary school? I used to LOVE getting those free pizza coupons for Pizza Hut!!  Not to mention, my mother was a reading teacher so I kind of had no choice but to grow up reading. Unfortunately, as I got older I haven't been able (or made the time) to read as much as I would like.  But lately, I've been trying to turn that around.

Right now I have 2 books I'm reading that I thought I'd share with you all in case you are looking to read more too! The first book is Treasure Your Silent Years by Dale Carnegie Bronner.  When I tell you this book is awesome, I mean it! My co-worker shared this with me one day and I love it.  It's written by the pastor of Word of Faith Family Worship Center and it really speaks on how to deal with the "silent years" in life and how the Lord uses these times to help us grow. 

The second book I'm reading is a very popular book and national best seller and for good reason...its called The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell.  My husband suggested I check it out and once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.  I literally read half this book in a car ride back home from DC one day.  It basically talks about the tipping point phenomenon and how little things can make a big difference.  It will definitely make you look at things differently.  It's a must read!

My Next Home Decor Project

So this past weekend, I didn't make it to the thrift store but I made it out fabric shopping.  Unfortunately,  it was a definite miss! :(  I really hate not finding anything I liked.  Its so funny though because every time I go fabric shopping, the people who work in the store constantly ask if they can help me look for something.  Then I kindly say, "No thanks, Im just looking".  I guess that's not a good enough answer because they usually continue to try to "help" me with something.  But really, I go in fabric stores and look around to see what stands out to me.  I can usually gauge that pretty quick.  So when nothing stands out or catches my eye.... I know right away and its disappointing because fabric is truly what inspires me when I make my bags.

But on a brighter note, I have figured out my next home project.  We have decided to tackle doing backsplash in our kitchen! This is something a lot of people do themselves all the time and I have been wanting to try it forever now...so Im glad my hubby is finally on board with the project!

After going to a few stores looking for something we liked that was reasonably priced (we don't want to spend alot on this project in case we mess up ...lol), we settled on these two mosaic tile options:

I really love the rich colors in the darker tiles but after getting home, we discovered this one below will go best with the countertop and cabinets.  I do like how these tiles have a shade of green in them which should compliment the paint in the kitchen nicely. 

We plan to start on this project at the end of this month/early next month so stay tuned for how everything turns out.  I'm super excited about this too!

P.S. Depending on the type of tiles you choose for your back splash and how large the area is you want to cover, this project can get pricey.  Tiles can run as low as $5 a sheet up to $40 a sheet or more so its really up to you and the look you want to go for.  Either way, doing it yourself is cheaper than paying someone to do it for you! ;)

My 1st Client!

So today I had a consultation with my first booked client and Im sooooo excited! Its for a Princess & the Frog themed birthday party for the cutest little soon to be 4 year old girl! This is a really popular theme with little girls now.  I took my two little cousins to see the movie when it first came out, otherwise, I probably would not have seen the movie yet.  I have a few ideas off the top of my head but I'm still brainstorming some things. 

The party is next month so stay tuned to see how it comes together! I cant wait! :)

Yayyyy! So I just found out that Jackie's all white bridal shower I decorated is in rotation for the Party of the Day on Catch My Party !!!
How cool is that!?  Not sure how long they will keep it up as Party of the Day but Im just estatic that they featured it!! :)

On the hunt....

for my next thrift store furniture find! On Saturday, Im going to hit up my fav thrift store and see what I find! As with any kind of shopping its a hit or miss with the thrift store. Sometimes its literally nothing but junk...and sometimes you really run up on some good stuff! I also may try to do a little fabric shopping around Philly.... Im still on the hunt for some inspiring pieces.  Fabric and color really get my juices flowing creatively when it comes to making bags and not much has stood out to me lately... so we'll see what I come across if I head out! Fingers crossed :)

And for all my loyal handbags customers reading this, dont worry.  Amidst all my decorating projects, I haven't forgotten about you! I was working on bags the other night....maybe I'll do a little sneak peak soon!

Thank You Bags

One of my readers asked me how I made the thank you bags so here's how I did it.  Its super easy!  I bought an extra large scallop craft punch from Michaels.  It is regularly $24.99 but who pays full price at Michaels?!
I used one of my trusty 40% off coupons and got it for around $16.  Next, I bought some decorative paper that I wanted to use for the borders of label. I used the craft punch on that paper and made about 25 circles.  Then I created the actual 'Thank You for Coming' label circles on PowerPoint and cut them out.  Lastly, I glued the thank you circles on top of the scallop circles I created from craft punch then glued them to the bags!! Easy peezy, right?!
